3R Sprint Race review

Today my little brother and I decided to try the 3R sprint race together, so I signed him up for D and I signed myself up for C. I did an easy spin with my sister earlier this morning so my legs were all warmed up. I was going to try to hold around 130 ish watts and maybe try to win. I looked at some other people in C\’s previous sprint race results and some were holding almost 5 wkg. I know! Crazy. I knew I had a shot at winning but I am not really a sprinter, I do more climbing IRL and on Zwift. I decided it was worth a shot. The race is 2.7 miles long with a bit of climbing, that\’s around a 7-8 minute race for me. I knew I would have to stay with the lead group if I was going to try to win.

The race. As the clock began ticking down……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..I started ramping up my watts up to around 150 watts. I knew I would have to stay with the lead group if I was going to try to win. I shot out of the race pen, around 30 riders were in front of me, all the categories were mixed in, so the riders who can hang onto the A cats, pretty much win. I was with the front group for around 30 seconds, most of them were pushing at around 5 wkg, I was struggling to keep up, at around .5 miles, I dropped back to some other rider who was in D. I stayed with that rider until the final sprint. As we rounded the corner I began to sprint. The D category rider could not keep up with me. My little brother was behind by around 30 seconds, this was his first time actually racing. I ended up in 12th in the category, even though it was not a win, I still did pretty good. My little brother finished 6th in his category, D. Here are some pictures from the race. Hope you enjoyed reading this article! Ride On!
