Zwift Update May Released 1.25

Today is game release day! The latest game release is now available on Mac, PC, with Android and iOS coming in the next few hours.

Overview

The 1.25 game release contained a few new things. One change that Zwift made was increasing the pedal assist time when joining a pace partner. This allows riders to have more time to ramp up their power to stay with the pace partners. There was not much added, but a few new things were announced. Zwift will be adding three new pace partners, one at 1.8wpk, 1.15 wpk, and 2.15 wpk. The goal of adding these pace partners was to fill the gaps between the current pace partners. The Neokyo pace partners will also be removed due to lack of popularity. Zwift added two new frames, the Scott Plasma RC and the Felt IA 2.0. Riders can also now start training plans on any day of the week. The new pace partners will be added on May 15th. Zwifters have also noted that there are some new pens at the top of Ven-Top, Alpe Du Zwift, and more. Could Zwift be adding downhill races? Zwift also added the Pride life guard tower permanently, more details can be found here: https://forums.zwift.com/t/pride-lifeguard-tower-is-permanent-may-2022-1-25/584108.

Bugs/issues

My thoughts

Overall I think that this was a pretty good game release. Over the past few releases, Zwift has been getting better and better at making sure the game releases are bug free. They still contain some bugs, but most are not as major as some of the bugs that we used to see in game releases. There was some good content added in this update, and I can’t wait to see some new roads in the Makuri Islands soon!

Zwift Releases April 2022 Recap/Roadmap

Zwift has announced that they will be starting a monthly recap/roadmap of what users can expect in the next few months. The full post can be found here: https://forums.zwift.com/t/competition-ai-tech-update-april-2022-recap/583816.

Zwift has made a few comments recently regarding their very popular pace partner feature. The feature went live around 2 years ago, and since it’s release a few developments have been made. In the next game release, Zwift will be increasing the amount of time that the pedal assist lasts. Zwift will also be adding additional paces, more details will be released soon.

Zwift is also going to release a game update sometime this week, likely on Tuesday or Wednesday(most likely Wednesday as it will not interfere with any major events).

Zwift Releases Clubs Update – Companion v.3.35

Zwift has just announced a bunch of new updates for clubs. These updates will be slowly rolling out over the next few weeks, similar to how the new home screen has been rolling out. The main features in this update include: clubs discovery, event only routes, and sharable club links. Images coming in the next few days.

Clubs discovery

The latest companion release now allows you to search, filter, and scroll through clubs. This makes finding clubs very easy for users. Zwift will also be removing the 100 rider limit and the three clubs limit in the near feature.

Sharable club links

You can now share your club link. This allows you to send links to people, and have them have the ability to join the club on a browser or companion app. In order to share event links, click the three dots in the top right hand corner, then share club.

Event only routes

The latest companion release allows you to use event only routes in your club rides, this includes routes like Bologna TT Lap, Watopia’s Waistband, and tons more. Note: Downtown Dolphin and Bologna TT lap will be added shortly.

Zwift Gravel Mountain – What We Know So Far

In the latest Zwift Companion release, users have spotted the new map for the rumoured Gravel Mountain route. Here is what we know so far.

Based off of the time of release for the companion map, we assume it will be released into the real game in the next game release(next few days). Zwift has also said that they will be testing with select individuals(likely the members of the Zwift Focus group).

Knowing the name of the route, we know that this route will include a gravel climb(the entire route will most likely be gravel).

Looking at the route, I think that the road will likely be around 5 miles long, making it a good gravel crit circuit.

Zwift has also said that there will be new features releasing with this map eventually. Zwift also released a tweet that seems to show the gravel route…

This post will be updated as soon as more details are available.

Zwift Adds Wahoo Direct Connect Support

Zwift has just announced that they have added Direct Connect Support for Wahoo. This is a feature request from over a year back when the direct connect was first released, so many Zwifters are loving that it was finally released. This update does not require a game update, as it is a client based change. Once you log on and have this set up, you will be able to access this feature.

Currently iOS, Apple TV, Android, and Mac have access to this feature, PC will be added in a later update. I am not super familiar with this feature as I don’t own a Wahoo Kickr, so for a in depth article, head over to Zwift Insider: https://zwiftinsider.com/wahoo-direct-connect-released/

Zwift Update March 1.23 Released

It’s game release time! This game release just went live a bit ago, it is out on PC and Mac, iOS and Android has just been released.

Overview

The update was a pretty minor update, including a few new things. Mostly changes around training plan flexibility and some home screen updates. The update also includes some sweet new frames!

New Home Screen video

New frames and wheelsets

There were some new frames added in this update, the BMC TeamMachine, Specialized Diverge, and the Mosaic RT-1d. Zwift also added two new gravel wheelsets, the Cadex AR 35 and the Reserve 25 GR. Zwift Insider is currently running speed tests on these, so watch for a post on their website.

Frames

BMC TeamMachine – Level 26 + 832,900 drops

Specialized Diverge – Level 12 + 532,500 drops

Mosaic RT-1d – Level 15 + 852,000 drops

Wheels

Reserve 25 GR – Level 1 + 11,400 drops

CADEX AR 25 – Level 1 +21,300 drops

Workouts

As usual, Zwift has added some new workouts of the weeks. Zwift has also added a new training plan called Garmin Gravel Unbound. A training plan targeted towards gravel riders. This training series will start on the 11th of April, so it is currently not in game yet.

Zwift also added some more training plan flexibility. Training plans that are flexible will allow users 2 weeks after the training plan starts to complete the plan, and worlouts will remain unlocked for the duration of the training plan. You will no longer be required to rest for 8 hours before completing another workout in the training plan, so you can now do double workout days! The training plan flexbility is also now based off of how long the training plan is, so the times will vary. The last change is that the UI is now more intuitive when registering for a training plan.

Upcoming workout changes: Zwift will be working to make it so that you can adjust the amount of time you warm up and cool down for, along with allowing users to extend training plans.

New home screen

Zwift is continuing the rollout of the new home screen and should be available to all users around the spring of 2022. The rollout seems to be starting with the newer accounts(accounts created in the past month or so).

Zwift also provided an update on the new home screen. Starting this week there will be a slow roll out on Mac devices, note that some Windows users do not yet have the new home screen, so it will be awhile until it is fully rolled out.

Here are the release notes from the forums:

  • Added an event filter for Tour of Watopia 2022 events on the new Home Screen.
  • Made improvements to the prioritization of sounds based on proximity of the Zwifter.
  • Recovery blocks in workouts will receive a full star regardless of power output being too high or too low.
  • Improvements to workout arch positioning when the arch is near an intersection.
  • Made improvements in the pedal assist Zwifters receive when joining other Zwifters, events in progress, or a Pace Partner.
  • Time based events leaderboards and on-road positioning is now calculated from the starting line for all participants (regardless of when they cross the starting line.)
  • Fixed an issue causing some event filters to appear incorrectly in the new Home Screen.
  • Fixed an issue where XP would be awarded when a workout block was completed outside of the target power.
  • Fixed an issue with the Gravel Grinder workout where cadence suggestions did not appear in the warm-up.
  • Fixed an issue causing the critical power curve graph to ignore some data from subsequent rides within the same session.
  • Fixed an issue where lap progress would show an extra lap after finishing an event.
  • Fixed an issue where Challenges text did not display when the German language was selected.
  • Fixed an issue causing login text to be difficult to read on iOS when using dark mode.
  • Fixed an issue where users who answered onboarding questions on the web would be asked those same questions again in-game.
  • Fixed an issue causing black boxes to appear in Innsbruck on MacOS.
  • Fixed an issue causing some rocks on the Mega Pretzel route to be lighter than air.
  • Support for Intel HD Graphics 3000/2000 has been discontinued.
  • Minimum MacOS requirement is 10.12 Sierra or later.

Bugs/Issues

Here is a list of the bugs in the Zwift March 2022 Game Release.

My thoughts

Overall I think that this was a pretty good update. It is a bit disappointing that we will have to wait a few more months for the new home screen to be fully released, but at least things are happening. I would expect the next expansion to the Makuri Islands to be released in the next few months(maybe around May-ish). TOW is also starting soon, so be on the lookout for complete details being released soon. For some more information about TOW, head over to this article: https://pursuitcyclingforkids.com/2021/12/22/tour-of-watopia-2022/. The new bikes look pretty cool too, I almost bought the BMC TeamMachine even though speed tests aren’t out yet(Actually, I might go buy it right now… be right back!)

Dura Ace Bug Fixed?!? // Zwift Update February 1.22 Released

Overview

The update was a pretty minor update, including a few new things. Zwift is continuing the rollout of the new home screen and should be available to all users around the spring of 2022. The rollout seems to be starting with the newer accounts(accounts created in the past month or so). Included in the game release are two new routes, Electric Loop and Chasing the Sun. For more details on the routes scroll down. The update also came with some new gravel wheels, the Roval Terra CLX. It costs 17,800 drops, one of the cheapest items in the drop shop! It is rated 3 stars aero and 1 star for weight, so I wouldn’t expect it to be a top performer. There were several frames added, the Specialized Crux and Trek Speed Concept. Zwift also added the Enve gravel wheels. It seems that the Dura-Ace bug might have been fixed! Zwift Insider is currently running tests on the new frames to confirm this! Here are the release notes from the forums:

  • Increased the Workout FTP Bias range from +/- 10% to +/- 25%.
  • Individual workouts in Zwift’s most popular cycling training plans (Build Me Up, Pebble Pounder, and Gran Fondo) are now available on-demand.
  • Flexible Training Plan Workouts now unlock at 12:01am on Monday.
  • Connectivity alerts will immediately disappear when the issue is resolved and will only remain on screen for 60 seconds if the issue remains unresolved.
  • Added a label above the Challenges UI in the pause menu to help Zwifters find their Challenges.
  • Fixed an issue where an invalid day would be selected in the date of birth UI in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where the date of birth change would not be saved if unit of measure is changed before saving.
  • Fixed an issue where the save button would not work when updating run paces in the Zwifter profile.
  • Fixed an issue where suggested run paces would be saved even if the Zwifter cancels the change.
  • Fixed an issue causing XP to be awarded for certain skipped workout blocks.
  • Fixed an issue causing certain workout blocks to appear invisible in the Workout Editor.
  • Fixed an issue with the gradient display in London when riding in the countryside.
  • Fixed an issue causing activity title changes to not properly sync with 3rd party partner sites.
  • Fixed an issue with some segment times not being displayed correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where Pace Partner pace would be truncated.
  • Fixed an issue causing all running Pace Partners to show Category A.
  • Fixed an issue causing bikes to spawn at a strange angle. All bikes will now spawn parallel to the road.
  • Fixed an issue causing riders to swerve in some situations on the Railways and Rooftops and Sprinters Playground routes in Neokyo.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed some runners to make a U-turn in an event.
  • Fixed an issue where some Zwifters would be stuck at “Finding Riders” when late joining an event.
  • Fixed an issue causing a dead end to appear in the Neokyo mini-map.
  • Fixed an issue causing flickering in certain parts of the Rooftop Rendezvous route.
  • Fixed an issue where the whale in Watopia was flickering between timelines. We’ve ensured they will now remain in the best timeline.
  • Fixed an issue with the SRAM RED 2021 rear derailleur being slightly underpriced, and a tad bit too light.
  • Updated the name of our famous pizza socks to actually be called Pizza Socks in the garage.

When and What Will the Next Makuri Islands Expansion Be?

Background information

The Makuri Islands were orginally released in May of 2021, with the goal of being a unique Japanese inspired world. Zwift has said that this world will one day match the size of Watopia, and maybe even be larger than Watopia. The islands started with Yumezi, a tranquil countryside that is pretty flat and calm. Zwift then released the Neokyo expansion in November of 2021, which was supposed to be a vibrant neon city with short punchy climbs here and there. One of the main things that the island is missing is a long climb.

What could it be?

If Zwift were to make a replica of Mt. Fuji, it would be massive, and not many riders would be able to complete the entire climb given that Mt. Fuji is over three times the height of the Alpe(3,400 ft). Zwift definitely will be making a climb, as you can already see it in the background while riding in Yumezi. The chances of Zwift making a Mt. Fuji climb is pretty slim, but I think a route that goes around Mt. Fuji(or Mt. Zuji), and the hillside is very likely.

When?

The Neokyo expansion was released 6 months after the orginal Yumezi was released, but it will likely take longer as Zwift was probably working on Neokyo even before the Yumezi release. It has now been almost 3 months, so it is likely we see another release in around May.

Meanwhile, Zwifters have lots to look forward to in the next few months, with the new home screen starting to release in the next few weeks, and around 10% of users getting clubs every week.

With this update, Zwift also made some changes to their device support, for more on that, head over to this article: https://pursuitcyclingforkids.com/2021/12/01/zwift-announces-numerous-game-changes/. For an article about the new home screen, head over to this article(coming shortly). The update also included a few new frames and wheels, Zwift Insider should have speed tests up shortly. • When nearing the end of a Meetup, the distance remaining value will transition to meters/feet to make it more clear exactly when the meetup ends.

  • Added more spawn points in Neokyo routes so Zwifters are less likely to spawn on top of other Zwifters.
  • Added the ability for KICKR bike riders to disable steering.
  • Updated text in the Back to Basics – To the Max workout.

  • Devices running iOS versions prior to iOS 12 are no longer supported.

Here are some images of the content added in this update. Homescreen was not released in this update, but should be coming soon.

Bugs/issue list

Here is a frequently updated list of bugs/issues that were released in the Zwift update 1.20. Last updated 12/15.

My thoughts

I think that this is a great update, and most Zwifters are pretty satified already from the Neokyo update. As long as there are no major bugs, I think that this is a very solid update, but Zwifters will likely be very frustrated if they find out they can’t log on, or something like that. The new home screen not being released in this update is a slight disappointment, but it should be coming in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more details!

GPlama Video

Gplama(Shane Miller) just dropped his video about the update, here is a link to the video.

How To Get The Holiday Kit on Zwift

Zwift confirmed that they are no longer doing this for this year. They will have a bigger new year’s celebration instead. The Christmas kit is now available to select, and the holiday decorations are up! You also may notice the decorations around Watopia(lights on the trees, Santa’s sleigh was spotted a few years back). This is very easy to get, here is a video with instructions on how you can get it. Prefer to read? Click here.

Step by step

  • Go to your “garage”
  • Select jersey icon
